Get Information Regarding Personafile Product Network

Get the latest news on the products you own from the Personafile product network. One of the purposes of this site is to assist you when you intend to buy a consumer product. Your product network will have the answers you need.

A frequently asked question is which laptop brand is most reliable. It is an important question, because laptops can be tough to fix, with no user-serviceable parts inside. That means if something goes wrong with your laptop; it is a pretty much-guaranteed trip to a repair center. Most people choose to pick a laptop they think will not break down, relying on horror stories from friends or the Internet. Of course, every manufacturer has a mile-long list of angry customers who have not gotten satisfaction from indifferent tech support telephone drones, fine-print-filled warranties, or shady third-party repair services.

The guys from ‘Consumer Reports’ have looked at the computer industry and made a product review. While some people pointed out that Apple ranks at the top of the list for laptop tech support, they are more interested in the brand history chart from the same issue.

The chart shows data from about 75 000 laptops purchased between 2003 and 2007, recording how many have had a serious problem requiring repair. The companies listed are Lenovo, Compaq, Sony, Toshiba, Dell, HP, Gateway, and Apple, and all scored between 20 percent and 23 percent. Consumer Reports says a difference of less than three points is statistically not meaningful.

The product review proved that there are not major laptop brands to break up more than any other, because most laptops are essentially commodity products, made from the exact same components, and differentiated only by their outer shells and extra features. Therefore, next time someone says not to buy a laptop from a certain vendor because it breaks down all the time, you can assure him that there is about a 1 in 5 chance his laptop will develop a major problem, no matter where it came from.

If you want to buy a camera, certainly you must read the product review from Personafile. Here you will find the most popular digital camera reviews, related to FujiFilm, Nikon, Canon. FujiFilm has released a firmware update for its F100fd compact camera. The update is a response the pink banding issue that has been the subject of heated discussion on the FujiFilm Talk forum. FujiFilm says the modification will reduce the pinkish colored banding reported by some users.

The new product review of Nikon states that AF-S VR-Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8G ED-IF is the first in a series of reviews. The 70-200mm F2.8 VR has long been a favorite of Nikon DX format shooters.

Another product review announces that Canon has released firmware updates for its range-topping EOS 1D Mark III and 1Ds Mark III cameras. The updates, to versions 1.2.3 and 1.1.2 respectively, provide new custom functions to give direct access to auto focus points and additional ways to apply exposure compensation. They also intend to improve the stability of AF accuracy in AI servo AF mode when shooting extremely low-contrast subjects.

Fans of flexibility will be bending over backwards to grab a glance at the latest offering from Panasonic. The FX500 features a 5x optical zoom that starts at 25mm (in 35mm terms), featuring the company’s O.I.S anti-shake system. The FX500 is also the first Panasonic to feature a touch-screen interface, which can be controlled using either fingertips or the included stylus.

By visiting Personafile you can read a product review, but you can also write your own reviews. The editors review thousands of products each year, from product network to digital camera, rating them from 1 to 10. Through testing and hands-on use, editors determine the products quality, features, and value.

Enabling Utility GIS for Energy Audit and Network Analysis

Energy Audit and Load Flow Analysis are two vital objectives of the R-APDRP reforms under way in most of the State Electrical Distribution Utilities in India. This is in line with the requirements of reduction in ATC losses and total energy accounting. The reforms are envisaged to be brought about through IT-enablement of utility business processes, in which GIS plays a crucial role. The GIS application helps in maintaining indexed consumer database and electrical assets database. The indexed consumers are mapped to their respective source of supply. This is essential for performing energy accounting Distribution Transformer-wise and Feeder-wise. GIS application integrated with Network Analysis module helps in various calculations like technical losses, load flow analysis, energy audit, network optimization and “what-if” analyses.

R-APDRP is the flagship program of Govt. of India, started in 2009, to transform the ailing power distribution sector in India, improve process efficiencies and make it commercially viable, without compromising with the following main objectives:

1. Provide reliable and quality power supply to all consumers at affordable price
2. Progressive reduction in ATC losses to manageable levels
3. Reduce power outages and interruptions
4. Improve customer services

Energy Audit and Network Analysis modules play complimentary roles for proper estimation of the technical and commercial losses and help in taking appropriate corrective action for improving the performance of the electrical distribution system. They help in capturing and validating energy inputs, energy consumption and other electrical parameters to calculate energy losses in a transparent manner.

Energy Audit and Network Analysis

Energy audit has always been high on the priority among all utility applications. Energy audit module has to be seamlessly integrated with metering, billing and collection with minimal manual intervention. The module has to capture electrical distribution network and energy parameters for feeder-wise and DT-wise loss analysis and identification of sections of revenue leakages. Therefore, 100% metering of consumers, substation feeders and distribution transformers is an essential requirements for total energy accounting. The foremost technical challenge is to effect a seamless integration of the entire business processes – both the new systems and current legacy systems, unless the utility chooses to discard the latter altogether.

Energy Audit module has to work closely with Network Analysis. There are special tools available to provide graphical analysis of distribution network with schematics highlighting attribute data for every substation, connected feeders, DTs, circuit breakers, sectionalizers and auto-reclosures. The network analysis tool uses advance algorithms for calculating phase imbalances, identifying low-voltage or overloaded sections, calculating section-wise loss levels and taking decisions on system optimization through network reconfiguration, capacitor placements and other system improvements measures as per energy audit requirements.

GIS is being leveraged in power utilities for energy audit and network analysis, and emerging as a powerful tool for load planning and management with the aim to improve the quality of electricity supply and related services. The geo-referenced electrical network overlaid on area base map is handy for the utility in not only managing assets and their maintenance, but also for mapping the electrical consumers to its source of supply for energy audit applications. By integrating electrical GIS with network analysis application, various analytical studies are possible for load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, efficiency calculations and optimization.

GIS requirements of Distribution Utility

GIS application for Distribution Utility is a multi-modular application whose components is integrated with core distribution processes like new connection management, meter data management (MDM), billing and collections, customer care, network analysis and energy audit. For better manageability, the GIS application should be configured with parameterized business rules with service-oriented architecture (SOA). The GIS application should be able to cater to the following business process requirements:

GIS based consumer indexing and asset mapping based on DGPS survey, digitization and superposition of geospatial map and data on satellite imagery
Integrated with other utility applications for network and load flow analysis, better load management, prevent revenue leakages and improve services
Able to conduct simulation studies to evaluate the impact of network reconfiguration, re-conductoring and optimization
Have in-built custom library of utility-specific symbols to add various network components with stored attribute data on base map
Should have the capability of graphical creation, editing and modeling of distribution network based on GIS data
Have the capability of automatic checking and validation of network topology and data based on network design parameters
Able to perform load flow calculations to provide power flows in MW, MVAR and current in each section, load at each node, voltage and regulation at each node for low voltage, overloading and loss analysis
Provide optimization of network design based on calculations for capacitor placement, switching sequence, protective device coordination and network restorative actions
Provide automatic checking and validation of network topology and data based on network design parameters
Perform load flow calculations for low voltage conditions, overloading, loss analysis and voltage regulations
Perform “what-if” analysis of distribution network parameters, such as (a) Capacitor placement and sizing, (b) Selective reconfiguration & re-conductoring, (c) Substation sizing and location, (d) Network augmentation, and (e) Network load variation

Utility GIS architecture

To serve the purpose of the Utility in terms of ease of use, interoperability and integration with other modules, the GIS application for the Utility has to be n-tier, web-based application based on Service- Oriented architecture (SOA). The various components of this architecture are:

1. Presentation Layer: This layer is for formatting and delivery of information and services as required by the Utility. This layer renders the content in presentable format to the target client devices e.g. Browser, Laptop, Desktops, etc. As the underlying functionalities will be completely decoupled from the presentation technology, new devices or service delivery channels can be easily adopted without impacting the functional components.

2. Application/ Business Logic Layer: The application tier consists of COTS server application namely ArcGIS Server and ArcFM Server providing the necessary functionalities such as authentication, geo-processing, metadata management, map rendering etc. Customized interfaces and applications will be developed and exposed to the clients using these components. These functionalities include Map navigation, locater tools, query, editing, tracing, SLD’s, versioning etc. It breaks large applications into manageable, autonomous and well contained components of business functionality that can be used in a variety of circumstances as defined in the Process Integration layer. The application layer exposes specific components as a service.

3. Process Integration Layer: Process layer provides for modeling of the business processes and their integration. It will enable to all the underlying services to be integrated and orchestrated as per SOA principle. Addition of new processes or changes in existing one can be implemented by orchestrating the changes as per the new requirement, e.g. if the existing collection process requires new payment mode to be incorporated, it would just require new payment service to be integrated with existing process.

4. Enterprise Data layer: The database tier consists of the GIS database including the GIS data Store (containing the complete data for the Land base, Network and Consumers), Operational Data Store and Analytical Data Store. All the databases are integrated to each other using Data integration Services. The GIS Data Store is the provider of the electrical network data to the other systems such as Network analysis, energy audit etc. The database tire also includes data authoring stations for the administration and authoring of map data. Thus, this layer comprises of the data and information aspects within the enterprise. Data corresponding to each application stack is available in this layer. This layer is also be responsible for transferring operational data to analytical systems.

Utility GIS Technology requirements

The GIS platform should support generic GIS components and conform with Open GIS data standards e.g. Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The solution must support the latest Web 2.0 and SOA technologies. This will ensure that the Utility GIS solution can be easily integrated with any SOA-compliant third-party applications. Moreover, the application should be highly scalable and easily configurable solution to meet current and future business needs. SOA-compliance empowers the GIS application to deliver geospatial content and capabilities via Web services. Web services correspond to recognizable business functions and offer a set of protocols by which they can be published, discovered, and used in a standard form. Web services are the building blocks of service oriented architecture (SOA), the backbone of service-level integration. Embracing GIS technology within the context of an SOA enriches the organization’s service offerings and improves overall efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility to organizational business processes. These services can be utilized in a variety of client applications on a middleware integration platform, such as Enterprise Service Bus, essentially to meet the following objectives:

1. Integration Capability – The application architecture should provide standards-based integration, without the need for proprietary programming tools.

2. Enterprise Scalability – Use of open standards ensures scalability of the application as per Utility’s requirements, and optimizing both deployment and maintenance costs of integrated systems.

3. Customizability – Industry standard solution will ensure customization with minimal efforts and ease of deployment of newer version.

GIS Standards and Interoperability

The GIS software selected for developing Utility applications should be capable of centrally managing geo data, providing better data security and integrity of the vast utility database of distribution network assets and electrical consumers. It should provide access to large volumes of data resources, while reducing storage costs and data processing overheads. It should extend GIS capabilities for mobile workforce management, increasing the accuracy and value of field data collection and asset monitoring. The GIS software should be scalable and robust, designed to meet the Utility’s requirements.

The GIS platform should conform to open standards and enterprise IT frameworks that allow users to incorporate GIS into any application on a variety of computing and mobile devices. It should support Utility’s workflows and business requirements, spatial data management, editing, analysis, and display. The interoperability across various business modules is achieved through open IT standards:

1. Web standards, through SOAP, XML, JavaScript, etc.

2. OGC compliance, through GML, WFS, WMS, WCS

3. Enterprise Integration, through SOAP, XML, EJB, SQL, etc.

Data Interoperability eliminates barriers to data sharing by providing state-of-the-art direct data access; data translation tools; and the ability to build complex spatial extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) processes. It allows the use any standard GIS data, regardless of format for mapping, visualization, and analysis. The geospatial capabilities must be built using open, standards-based application program interfaces (APIs). In addition, it should allow distribution of data and services through interface for managing geo-databases.

GIS for electrical utility should have the capability for modeling, editing, maintaining, and managing electrical asset data in an enterprise system. It should provide extensions for feeder management and network analysis. It should include tracing tasks to automate utility operations and an extensive set of editing tools. It should facilitate geographic data creation, network mapping and network analysis and allow integration of multiple calculations such as voltage drop, load flow, fault current, load management, network optimization, etc.

In Electricity Distribution Utility, it is a fundamental requirement to have a proper energy accounting and auditing system, aided by distribution network analysis on GIS platform. This can be achieved by automating the distribution value chain using open- standards architecture and appropriate technology. A high level of integration is required using enabling features and web services for timely and accurately recording, processing and mining of data for energy audit and analysis. The process integration envisages the solution to be designed in a multi-tier, web-based and service-oriented architecture (SOA) model. Enabled by GIS, Energy Audit and Network Analysis modules can be seamless integrated with meter data management, billing and collections, asset management, indexed consumer database and electrical network mapping on a middleware enterprise service bus. Standard plug-ins, business APIs and inter-operability standards like WSDL, UDDI, XML and SOAP facilitates this integration process.

Vehicle to Grid – How Electric Vehicles Interact With a Smart Power Electricity Network

What is Vehicle to Grid
Also called Vehicle 2 Grid or V2G, Vehicle to Grid is the process of connecting your electric car into the transmission electricity network. If you have an electric vehicle then you will definitely want to consider setting up V2G through a simple metering system and contract with your local electricity supplier.

What do I need to consider before deciding to connect my vehicle to the grid?

Firstly you have to have an electric car which can be charged by a standard electricity outlet.
The second thing you will want to do is determine some basic driving habits – i.e. if you drive almost your entire vehicle range to work and back every day, then there is unlikely to be much energy left over to swap between your battery and the grid, which makes setting up V2G a little redundant
Having decided that V2G connectivity is possible and feasible, you will need to look at the right products on the market to help you achieve this. I.e. which inverter should be used and which electricity trading contract will suit your needs the best?
If you decide suddenly that V2G is not good for you, how can you get out of an otherwise more expensive contract?

Once these basic items have been checked off the list, it is time to call up your utility and start the process of applying for V2G. You can then purchase a suitable inverter which allows you to feed back into the grid (this will be similar if not identical to the type of inverters used on solar PV grid connected power supplies). Of course you will have to decide what sized inverter to go for.

For example, a 5kW inverter may cost $1000 and a 2kW inverter may cost $600. Therefore you have to be sure that you can recover the $400 over being able to sell a higher rate of electricity in peak times. Some simple maths will help you work out the optimal solution, but just be aware of the various pay offs for each option.

Why is Vehicle to Grid (V2G) Good?
Vehicle to Grid applications have a number of benefits for all sorts of businesses and stakeholders. Vehicle to Grid (V2G):

Empowers the home consumer to make sensible choices about when they use their electricity through smart metering
saves the consumer money in the long run through effective electricity management
is green! Every time you supply the grid with electricity during the yearly peak energy demand, you are reducing the need to upgrade the electricity network with more transmission lines and generators
You are helping to bring electric vehicles (EV’s) onto the market
You are reducing your carbon footprint! This is a big ones these days
The electricity company can save money and reduce their unit electricity prices, or reduce the need to increase them
reduce the amount of electricity transmission line needed. I.e. the car transports the electricity to where it is needed.
Cuts down on the amount of fuel stations required
Reduces our addiction to foreign oil through the accelerated introduction of electric vehicles and ability to replace fossil fuel generation with renewable energy generation.
Allows more sustainable energy and renewable energy to be introduced onto the electricity grid, as electric vehicle batteries can now act as a buffer to intermittent generation.

The last point is an important one. Traditional transmission networks are struggling to cope with large percentages of intermittent renewable and sustainable energy generation, as electricity generation from these sources is largely dependent on the elements. Therefore to have the ability to store electricity somewhere is important. In many countries power utilities are approaching this by pumping water up a hill and regenerating during peak times (~60% efficiency) or storing hydrogen formed by electrolysis underground ready for re generation (~40% efficiency). Storing electricity in batteries is a much higher efficiency (60% – 90%) however is a little costly.

Japan uses large battery sheds to store small amounts of energy, however vehicle to grid systems also work very well as storage mechanisms and are likely to play this role in the future as more electric vehicles hit the market. How soon we will see such networks will largely rely on the countries commitment to renewable and sustainable energy sources, as well as the abundance of wind, sun and wave energy. Although many companies claim to have a green lining, short term economics of such projects still remains the number one driver for the introduction of such technology.

The advantage to the end consumer who is running a vehicle to grid system is the savings in electricity for essentially hiring out the storage space in their electric car battery. So as we can see, it is a win win for many as it not only reduces the stress on our electricity transmission and generation networks, allows more sustainable energy to be placed on the system with lower carbon emissions, but also saves the end user money whilst making electric vehicles more affordable. It also weans us off our foreign oil addiction through the cost effective introduction of electric vehicles, a topical issue as we approach peak oil status around the world.

ADR Register launches IMI Qualifying Assessment Programme and introduces skills test for mediators

Global Network Group (GNG) | African Network Group (ANG) is very proud to announce that one of its subsidiary companies, ADR Register, is accredited as Qualifying Assessment Programme (QAP) of the International Mediation Institute (IMI) for the African continent.
Herewith ADR Register offers professional mediators in (South) Africa the unique opportunity to join the rapidly growing international group of international certified ADR practitioners and mediators. Mediators as well as their clients benefit from this. It is guaranteed the mediation services and processes are executed against modern, well thought-out, proved-in-practice and international standards, including code of conduct, right of complaint, CPD requirements.

Together with our QAP accreditation ADR Register introduces the first profile-based skills test for mediators. This profiling assessment programme has been created by the ADR Register in conjunction with Foundation ACB | Corporate ADR & Mediation (ACB Foundation) from the Netherlands.

The ACB Foundation identified a set of criteria that are important for mediation training programs to guarantee that prospective mediators are trained in a way as to ensure a solid base to become commercial or legal mediators.

“The quality of mediators and the interests of the private sector are not served through prescribing a specific mediation style or approach. Self-evaluation, continuous professional development with peer feedback as well as a clear understanding of the mediator of their own style and approach is crucial,” says Manon Schonewille, the President of ACB Foundation. “We have developed a three-step assessment programme in conjunction with ADR Register where the mediator receives individual feedback from an assessor in several instances both on their performance during the assessment and whilst reviewing how the mediator deals with mediations in practice.”

The idea behind this assessment is to give young (meaning “new to the field”) mediators a chance to assure potential clients and mediation providers that they meet quality standards, which will help them to acquire cases (either on their own or as co-mediator) that are necessary to gain sufficient experience to become an ADR full-certified mediator and to have access to the additional title IMI Certified Mediator.

This also offers the mediator a first step in an ongoing professional development system that will guide and monitor them in gaining experience whilst embarking on a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) path, including self-reflection and peer intervention that should stimulate the mediator to continue the habit of self-reflection and seeking peer reviews.

The mediator skills that are tested during the performance-based assessment, as well as the interview, fall into the following categories:

Professional attitude, self-reflection and professional development
Managing the process, including generating options, decision-making, closure, implementation and follow-up of mediations
Advanced mediation process management skills

ADR Register will facilitate the launch and management of this programme in African countries.

ADR Register, established in 2011, is an independent and by Lloyds Register Netherlands ISO 9001:2015 certified register for the registration and certification of ADR professionals (e.g. arbitrators, conflict coaches, mediators, negotiators), organisations (e.g. companies and institutes) and products (e.g. education and training programmes) worldwide.

ADR Register has its regional offices in Johannesburg (South Africa), Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Emmerich (Germany). ADR Register is a subsidiary of Global Network Group (GNG) and African Network Group (ANG).

Contractors on sectional title units must have trustees’ permission

With the growing demand for sectional title property throughout South Africa, there is an increasing trend to upgrade units – and when this is done efficiently and in good taste, such upgrades can add significantly to the value of the units and the scheme as a whole.
Contractors on sectional title units must have trustees’ permissionThis being the case, it comes as no surprise to find that buy-to-let investors are moving in on sectional title property, very often with the clear intention of adding to their unit’s value so as to raise the rent, says Tony Clarke, managing director of the Rawson Property Group. However, owners of sectional title units are obliged by law to get the permission of the scheme’s trustees first since they are not allowed to do any alteration work without this permission.

If an owner engages a contractor with the permission of his body corporate, it is essential to insist that every member of the workforce is registered in such a way that they can be identified during the course of the day and at the entrance and exit points. A full list of the employees on the site should be lodged with the trustees.

Insurance policy is important

In addition, no contractor on a sectional title scheme should be allowed to go ahead until he has proved that he has a paid-up, comprehensive, all risks/liability insurance policy in place the day he starts work. In most cases the trustees will see that this is done, but there have been instances where this matter was overlooked. The reason for this important policy ruling is that insurers will not accept responsibility for the insurance of a unit from the moment a contractor moves into it.

Even if a casual day labourer is taken on for a limited period to handle such simple tasks as painting or the rewiring of an electric network, the owner should see that some sort of insurance policy is in place. Insurance issues become even more complex when the body corporate’s common property is damaged, for example, if a contractor’s vehicle hits the entrance gate.

“Should a construction employee be killed or hurt, the body corporate’s trustees could be held responsible if it can be shown that they allowed the contractor to go ahead in a way that he did not comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Trustees must, therefore, familarise themselves with this Act and ensure that the contractor understands it and abides by its very comprehensive rulings.”

Gel Fireplaces: What Price Romance?

Gel fireplaces are an easy and inexpensive way to add charm, beauty, and warmth to just about any room in your home.

They can be ordered in a variety of styles and finishes complete with stained glass accents and curio cabinets.

Most gel fireplaces sell for $350 – $500, but the price for specific models can differ by as much as 10% from retailer to retailer.

Shipping prices also fluctuate a great deal. For example, Home Shopping Network charges $55 to ship the same gel fireplace that Target ships for free.

Gel fireplaces are also called ventless fireplaces by some online retailers. Most of the time they are referring to gel fireplaces, but the term is also used to describe electric fireplaces.

Whether you purchase your fireplace online, or from a local retailer, you can look forward to spending some quality time with your tools while you put it together. Normal set up time is less than an hour.

There are two common complaints from gel fireplace owners. One is the slight odor of alcohol from the burning gel. This can be solved by placing a scent stick in the gel or buying one of the newer scented gels.

The other problem is replacing the cover on a burning gel container without burning yourself. A simple magnetic opener/closer for $10 solves this problem.

Gel vs Electric Fireplaces: Heat Output and Cost to Run
Electric fireplace heaters are rated at 1,500 watts (5120 Btus) and are designed to heat around 200 square feet, or a 12′ x 16′ room.

The heat output of a gel fireplace is determined by the number of gel canisters
burning at one time. According to Sunjel Industries, a single can of their gel generates 3,000 Btus. If this is the case, you would have to burn two cans of gel to approximate the heat output of an electric fireplace.

An electric fireplace rated at 1,500 watts uses 1.5 kilowatts of electricity per hour. When you multiply 1.5 x .10 cents per kilowatt hour (the average price for electricity in the United States), the resulting cost to operate is .15 cents per hour.

A can of gel costs around $2 and burns for 2 1/2 – 3 hours. Two cans burning simultaneously would cost $1.33 per hour, or $1.18 more per hour than the electric fireplace.

But what price romance? Will it be the inexpensive droning of an electric fireplace blower or the magic of crackling flames from a gel fireplace?

Why Resort To Partial Discharge Measurements

Partial discharge testing has been used for a long period in order to help people detect insulation problems. This testing is more than useful because it can find the problems before they lead to failure. As a consequence, partial discharge testing has become an important tool in the maintenance of the electric equipment, being used to determine any possible problems.

People who deal with electric equipment on a daily basis need to make sure that their equipment is in a good condition and they can do that by means of partial discharge testing. This testing will identify any problems before they lead to a breakdown of the system and they are recommended at least annually. The cost of the partial discharge testing is low in comparison with what you would have to pay in order to repair the failure of the system.

Electric systems all over the world experience quite often problems with aging insulation. Most of the times, people confront themselves with catastrophic results when the insulation system fails. Such failure causes huge financial losses because of the lost production and the deterioration of the expensive equipment. Fortunately, nowadays people have the power to reduce their losses by means of partial discharge testing, which can predict when a possible insulation failure occurs.

Furthermore, partial discharge testing is non-intrusive, being able to locate partial discharge activities. Thus, one can easily assess the condition of the insulation and take the necessary measures in order to solve any existing problems. The early detection of partial discharge activities can prevent the failure of the equipment because it provides a warning of problems before they occur.

If you want to prevent a breakdown, we suggest testing your electric equipment; moreover, it is probably a good idea to have some partial discharge measurements which can detect and measure partial discharge activities. The use of partial discharge measurements has increased a lot the last years due to the application of digital analysis of the partial discharge systems and due to the use of computers which provide analysis of the partial discharge information.

The professional systems which are used nowadays provide an enhanced flexibility of use and a more accurate insulation diagnostic tool. Due to their obvious progress and accuracy, partial discharge measurements have become an essential tool in the insulation condition assessment. Nowadays measurement systems are based on modern computation techniques which aim to achieve a reliable detection of the partial discharges and the assessment of the partial discharge magnitudes.

The failure of electric equipment causes a long interruption of the system, costly repairs and of course, loss of revenue. The deterioration of the insulation is also a major cause of outages and the early detection and diagnosis of insulation problems will help you prevent such faults. Partial discharge activities represent an aging factor, being caused by several defects. Partial discharge tests and partial discharge measurements are highly recommended for many electrical types of equipment, for the purpose of maintenance and quality assessment.

One of the most frequent types of partial discharge measurements used nowadays is the ultrasonic measurement. The ultrasound waves penetrate seals, air vents and other small openings and the ultrasonic measurement is performed online, being non-intrusive. This method maintains the insulation integrity of the equipment that is tested, being employed in many applications such ad transformers, cable terminators, switchgears and others.
